jewelry care

How do I care for my jewelry?

Use a polishing cloth designed for sterling silver jewelry to clean the metal surface. i include a small polishing cloth with most orders and they are available for purchase here if you need extras.
for easier polishing, you can gently wash jewelry in soapy warm water (mild hand soap, nothing harsh) to clean off any oils, lotions, and sun screens etc. make sure to gently dry it completely before polishing.
please avoid polishing over oxidized, darker sterling silver as this may rub off the patina. after polishing, rinse with warm soapy water and towel dry. make sure jewelry is clean and completely dry before you store it away, avoid trapping moisture. wrapping your jewelry in a soft cloth will keep it clean and prevent it from tarnishing.
if you chose to use a liquid sterling silver jewelry cleaner, please follow the product's instruction. avoid using liquid cleaner on any rubber, sea glass and oxidized jewelry as this may harm the rubber/sea glass/patina.

for silver without patina/oxidation

This is a non-toxic, simple and efficient method you can do at home; no rubbing or scrubbing is involved.

1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
boiling water
glass or ceramic container
aluminium foil

Line the glass or ceramic container with a sheet of aluminium foil. Place the silver object in the container, for the electro-chemical reaction to occur each individual piece of silver must touch the aluminium. Sprinkle the baking soda and salt over the object. Pour over the boiling water until the entire piece is covered. Leave for 3-5 minutes (do not leave soaking). Wash the object in warm water with a mild soap, rinse well, then dry thoroughly with a soft cloth or tissue. You may immerse several pieces at once taking care they do not rub and scratch each other. Depending on the amount of water, additional baking soda & salt may be required.

please do not use on jewelry that has been intentionally oxidized as this will remove all the blackness. Equally not suitable for gemstones.

jewelry with rubber cords and rubber accents
any jewelry with rubber should be stored in a box and not in an airtight bag. rubber can be washed in soapy warm water and towel dried (please don't soak jewelry for an extended time, just wash off and dry).
please take your jewelry off to sleep, shower, swim, etc. and remember to apply your hairspray, perfume, lotions, and cosmetics prior to putting your jewelry on.

avoid any harsh or abrasive cleaners.
