Born and raised in Switzerland, claudia Abderhalden has been living in Santa Barbara, California since 1997 where she completed an interior design program in 2003. After attending jewelry classes at the Santa Barbara Continuing Education Program she found her passion for working with precious metals and, applying her design background, she has been designing and crafting jewelry full time since 2007.
claudia A. designs are inspired by architecture, geometrical shapes and unusual color and material combinations. her goal is to create minimal, timeless pieces that can be worn every day and for special occasions alike.
While working primarily in sterling silver, claudia also incorporates gold, copper, up-cycled bicycle tubing, and rubber into her jewelry designs. she is constantly looking for and exploring with new materials she can use as unusual accents in her jewelry designs and has worked with enamel, felt, and recycled packaging plastics in the past.
she applies techniques used in fabrication (soldering, forging, fusing, riveting, stone setting, oxidizing, folding, etc.), as well as weaving, folding, knitting and crocheting to handcraft earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, and the occasional cuff link.
claudia started exhibiting at the Santa Barbara Arts and Crafts Show in May 2005 and now exhibits regularly in various art festivals in California and across the US.
Designing and handcrafting jewelry has been a passion for many years and she hopes to enjoy the opportunity to share some of her creations with you!
